Upgrading the Alfa Romeo Stelvio in 2022

In the compact luxury crossover market, many models are indistinguishable - until the Alfa Romeo Stelvio enters the picture. This beautiful SUV is filled with luxurious features, a sporty powertrain, and an exceptional collection of safety features that define the Alfa Romeo brand. The 2021 model includes several trim choices, like the Sprint and Ti trims. For 2022, Alfa Romeo renamed the Ti Sport as the Veloce and added more standard safety and tech features, along with new body kits and styling features.

Similar Performance Features

The 2021 and 2022 Stelvio models have the same powertrain. Both models come with a 2.0-liter inline-four cylinder engine with standard rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can upgrade to all-wheel drive and the high-performance Stelvio Quadrifoglio.

However, the standard model comes with 280 horsepower and 306 lb-ft of torque. For a speedier driving experience, buyers who choose the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio model get a 2.9-liter V6 that delivers 505 horsepower along with standard all-wheel drive. The additional power and performance come with a higher price tag, too.

The 2.0-liter four-cylinder model comes in three trims: Sprint, Ti, and Veloce. For 2021, the trims were Sprint, Ti, and Ti Sport. The three rear-wheel-drive trims have an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 22/29 MPG.

More Standard Safety Features

A noticeable difference between the 2022 and 2021 Stelvio models involves the driver-assistance features. In 2021, the standard features included a Rear View Camera and Automated Emergency Braking. Otherwise, safety features were all optional add-ons. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not evaluated the 2021 and 2022 models.

For 2022, Alfa Romeo upgraded the safety features. The standard features now include Brake Assist, Traction Control for ABS and Driveline, Electronic Stability Control, Blind Spot Warning, Forward Collision Mitigation, and Front and Rear Parking Sensors. All trims also come with Adaptive Cruise Control.

Adding Tech in 2022

The 2021 Stelvio comes with an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It has a rotary controller on the center console for convenience. This system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and optional navigation. It has standard rear-seat audio controls, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and an optional premium sound system. Navigation is standard on the Stelvio Ti trim and up.

For 2022, the infotainment system is still 8.8-inches with the same rotary controls and sound systems. However, for this model year, Alfa Romeo is only offering a premium sound system on the Quadrifoglio trim. The three standard trims come with eight speakers, while the Quadrifoglio audio system has 15 speakers. Navigation is standard on all Stelvio trims.

Beautiful Styling on a Handsome SUV

Both model years have exceptional styling with very little difference. In 2021, the Sprint and Ti models have leather seats with leather-trimmed sport seats on the Ti Sport, unless buyers choose the Premium Package on the Ti trim. The Ti trim also came with a panoramic sunroof, while the Ti Sport included the Sport Steering Wheel with Paddle Shifters and a Rear Sport Diffuser. A leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel are optional on the 2021 model.

The 2022 models feature a 50/50 weight distribution for a smooth ride. They also have comfortable seats with heat in the front and rear. Leather seats are standard on the 2022 Stelvio, while the Veloce seats have more adjustability than the Sprint and Ti trims. All 2022 models have a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel.

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio specs are the same in 2021 and 2022. Both model years have seating for five with plenty of comforts. With the rear seats upright, the Stelvio has 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space, but with the rear seats folded, the cargo space increases to 56.5 cubic feet.
